Here in the dog days of August, it’s difficult sometimes to focus on the sort of fiber work that I need to get into, for future events and for restocking my virtual shelves. It’s hot, and I hate the heat. But the days are long and that gives me a lot of daylight for working… so I have been getting out there and setting up the outdoor dye studio and making pretty colors happen.

Enjoy that gratuitous knee shot  😉

I dyed some Falklands Wool and some Superfine Merino in a bunch of adventurous colors and immediately sold a couple – the rest will go up in the shop and eventually to the trunk show that I have coming up in September at Lovelyarns. I’m working on some battlets and hand spun yarn for that show as well – you know, I never rest.

So as I get ready for the Autumn months, let me get YOU excited about what’s coming up! There’s a LOT. It’s exciting!

First up is Neighborhood Fiber Co‘s Open House, happening on August 24th from 10a – 6p! Historically a great time, I’ll be there doing demos of spinning and weaving, and there will be lots of beautiful yarns and fibers for you to pet and take home. If you’ve never been to NFC’s shop and studio, it’s so cool – housed in an old firehouse, it’s totally worth seeing, and easy to get to – 700 N Eutaw St, Baltimore MD 21201.

Next is also a Neighborhood Fiber Co event – my debut class of Picture Weaving on a Standing Loom! This is on August 31st from 11a – 3p, and comes with the option to get a Schacht School Loom with your class or bring your own appropriate loom. You can learn how to use shapes, textures, and design elements to create an image that you plan out and recreate in your weaving. There are still some spaces left!

I’ve got a Trunk Show coming up at Lovelyarns [3610 Falls Rd, Baltimore MD 21211 – in the Hampden neighborhood] on September 14th through the 22nd, and you can catch me there in person on opening day and the 21st! On the 21st I’m also teaching an Intro to Spindle Spinning Workshop – which has open seats – so you absolutely could book the class then go shopping afterwards to encourage your new spinning skills! The 21st is also WorldWide Spin In Public Day, so coming to the shop to hang out and spin is encouraged!

Haven’t gotten enough spinning? Why don’t you join in with us in the newest friendly spinning competition, Spin Together? Starting on August 6th and ending on August 12th, teams will gather online and in person and attempt to spin the most yardage – there are also prizes for prettiest skein, wildest skein, and more. It’s free to spin and there’s a request for prizes in order to lead and organize a team… totally fun, and accessible to all! It’s encouraged to give a donation to Habitat For Humanity when you sign up, but not required.

I’m on the organizer committee for this event and couldn’t be more proud to be a small part of this event. I’ll be running Team Nevermore, of course, and if you’re interested in joining the team I recommend becoming part of our Facebook group ahead of sign ups!

And if that’s not enough, I am also a tabler and an enabler at the 12th Annual DIY Fest, once again happening at 2640 St Paul St, Baltimore MD 21218, in the big church space! This will be really fun, because not only can you purchase handmade fibery goodies from me, you can hang out and try your hand at making tiny tapestries or spindle spinning. I’ll be there from Noon – 6p on October 12th, definitely stop by – it’s FREE.

So… I am definitely doing my part to build community and spread the joy of fiber arts for the next couple of months – will I see you at one of these events? I sure hope so!
