Being someone who loves creating community and also gets a kick out of showing the world that spinning is indeed a thriving art, Worldwide Spin In Public Day seems tailor-made for me! And what’s even better is that other folks wanted to come out and play with me, and sit outside on the sidewalk in our Hampden neighborhood while people in cars yelled questions to us, and passers-by stopped to show their children what we were doing, or to ask us about what kind of spinning wheels those were.
The weather was a concern; there was a prediction of storms later, and it was overcast and breezy, so I decided to nix the tent and just set up an outdoor spinning “salon” [some chairs and a stool as a table, okay?] so that in case of sudden rain, everything would be easy to move. [yes, that’s foreshadowing!]
However, the day was PERFECT until 3:30, when a few raindrops changed into a torrent of rain pouring down. No worries though, we managed to get plenty of spinning accomplished AND talked to a ton of people. It was an utterly lovely day, and BIG thanks go out to Corrine, Rose, Kathy, and Brenda for joining me, and to Lovelyarns for letting us sit right outside like that.
You can see that we took up a good part of the space in front of the shop! Also, here’s a view of the lovely Falls Rd water main construction work, aka Hampden on the Riviera. The continuous sound of water falling from the pipes everywhere lends a certain… ambiance. 😉
Before I show you the rest of the photos, I just wanted to give a BIG shout-out to Cindy Cole Bennett for all her hard work in organizing a huge and fun event like this! She maintains the Worldwide Spin in Public webpage, as well as all the social media for the event, and if it wasn’t for her, this wouldn’t be happening at all. Also, a big THANK YOU goes out to Spinning Daily for featuring our gathering along with two others that happened in North America. It was a treat to be included!
If you don’t have an event happening next year when WWSIP rolls around, I suggest organizing one – it’s easy, fun, and I guarantee you’ll get a lot spun too! 😉
