My parents wanted to light my artistic candle. But over time, the definition of ‘the arts’ began to stretch. And as I got older, they suddenly realized, Oh, my God, we’re the parents of Iggy Pop. – Iggy Pop
I might be feeling a little saucy today. 😉
And that might be caused by all the awesome things I get to promote today! The end of the year is almost here, and the closer it gets, the more great things I see happening. Going by the rapid increase of cool stuff, does this mean that 2013 is going to be AMAZING? I think it does!
First up is one of the most exciting pieces of news I’ve heard in a while – the mega-talented Jacey Boggs is putting together a new publication for handspinners, PLY Magazine! Along with Creative Director Kitten Boggs and Photographer Bernadette Emerson, Jacey will be focusing on supporting the handspinning community, especially the less-served intermediate to advanced spinners. Attention to diversity and indie businesses is also promised, and I am quite excited to see this happening. The feel of the website is vibrant and modern, and I believe that this will be the breath of fresh air that the fiber arts community has been waiting for in a regular publication.
Want to support this project? There’s a Kickstarter going on right now – the perks are fantastic, and you’ll be helping this magazine get off to a great start. Most of the contribution levels include a subscription; if you can’t afford to contribute, you can pick up a subscription from the website, too!
And SPEAKING of Jacey Boggs, if you tune into Namaste Farms BlogTalk Radio show tonight, you can HEAR her! She will be the featured guest on the show tonight, and I’m sure she will speak in detail about PLY Magazine, and also her spinning, teaching, and other fun topics. Join host Natalie Redding of Namaste Farms [another wonderful teacher and interesting soul] and co-host Kimberly McAlindin at 9pm EST for the streaming broadcast. There’s a fun chat room available for conversing with the other listeners, too!

Tara Swiger does a lot of really cool things – she is a spinner and yarnie, a writer, a Starship Captain, a Maker. She’s REALLY REALLY good at helping people with their craftybiz & crafty life – exploring where you want to go and what you want to do in the most fun of ways. She just redid her website and it’s freakin’ delightful, and so it seems like the perfect time to mention her work here and recommend her highly. She has a fabulous mix of slice-of-life with helpful insight, all mixed with humor and style. And she loves hot pink, too! Yay!
… oooh, the perfect holiday postcard! Really, I like them for any time. There’s many other wonderful things in this shop, too!

A little Holiday music before you go. Taking a stroll over to Abney Park‘s website and picking up some merch for holiday gifts is never a bad idea, either.
psst psst – they have a whole Christmas ALBUM.
As always, thank you for reading! If you have links or news that you think should be included in my Community Thursday posts, email me or poke me on Facebook, like you do. <3
